Motlow State Community College
With multiple campus locations across southern Middle Tennesse, Motlow State Community College is a public comprehensive college established in 1969. It has its main campus in a 187-acre property in Moore County, and learning centers in Fayetteville, McMinnville, and Smyrna. Motlow State Community College also has a teaching site in Sparta and a partnership at the Middle Tennessee Education Center in Shelbyville.
Currently, Motlow State Community College has about 4,600 students. The college has a service area spanning 11 counties, including Bedford, Cannon, DeKalb, Lincoln, Rutherford, Van Buren, Warren and others. Recently, the education program at Motlow State Community College was named among the Top 50 Community College Education Programs nationwide. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The academic programs and offerings at Motlow State Community College span a wide range of disciplines and areas of study. Program offerings include Accounting, Art, Business Administration, Business Computer Programming, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Early Childhood Education, Economics, Elementary Education, Entrepreneurship, Foreign Language, Mass Communications, Mechanical Engineering, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Speech and Theatre, and more.
Mapping out one's educational path can be a confusing and overwhelming task. To make the process more efficient, Motlow State Community College provides academic advisement services for students. Academic advisors are available to help students in course selection, setting academic goals and tracking progress, provide information on possible majors, assist with any need to change one's major, discuss schedule changes, and help with graduation requirements.
Motlow State Community College also offers career planning services to students and graduates. Career advisors can meet with students and alumni for assistance regarding resume preparation, interview and job search skills, career goals and assessments, and other important information regarding career selection. Job fairs and other networking opportunities with local area employers are also regularly organizaed.
The Motlow College Library System offers resources, tools, and information to make the educational experience more efficient for students. Library services include delivery service (for materials available between the branch libraries), interlibrary loan, an extensive online library catalog for books, DVDs, publications, and other library materials, access to online databases for research and informational purposes, and many other valuable tools.
A more enriching and meaningful college experience is made possible by connecting with and participating in various student clubs and organizations that operate at Motlow State Community College. Some of the groups that students can join include Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Club, Diverity Club, Phi Theta Kappa, Psychological Society, Student Nurses Association, Veterans Education Transition Society, and other groups.
Opportunities for studying abroad and getting an international education are also offered at Motlow State Community College. One such program is the Tennessee Consortium for International Studies, which aims to expand overseas study opportunities for students in the state of Tennessee. There are also cultural events held on campus during the spring and fall semesters that feature international food, entertainment, and art, and these events are designed to increase cultural awareness and sensitivity, as well as to promote opportunities to study abroad.
